Heroes Monument 2

Located at the foreyard of the Regional Primary School of the village, on Nicolaos Papageorgiou Avenue, is a Monument dedicated to the E.O.K.A heroes Georgios Nicolaou and Stelios Triteos from Kato Pyrgos.

These two heroes of the community died from tortures to which they were submitted by the British soldiers. Georgios Nicolaou died on the 12th of November 1956 and Stelios Triteos on the 17th of June 1958.

The Monument was erected using funds provided by the Council for the Historic Memory of the E.O.K.A Fight of 1955-1959 and also by using money collected during a fund-raising conducted by the families of the heroes.

The Monument’s revealing ceremony was held by the President of the Republic of Cyprus at the time, Mr. Glafkos Clerides, on August 27th, 2000.
